Turkmenistan is integrating into the international eTIR system

The International Road Transport Union (IRU) is supporting Turkmenistan in the implementation of the eTIR international customs digital system, IRU told Trend on Friday.

“At the national level, the IRU and Turkmenistan established a partnership prior to the coronavirus pandemic to modernize customs control and facilitate international transit, primarily for the electronic pre-declaration of customs information known as “TIR-EPD” and the integration of eTIR into the customs system of Turkmenistan”, said in the organization.

It was noted that the successful implementation of “TIR-EPD” in Turkmenistan is an important step in this direction.

“TIR-EPD is an application that permits holders of TIR Carnets (TIR) to submit Electronic Pre-Declarations (EPD) to the customs authorities of different countries without the need to seek intermediary services and incur additional costs”, the IRU said.

The organization emphasized that with the help of “TIR-EPD” the customs authorities can confirm that the preliminary declaration has been submitted by the authorized holder of the TIR Carnet and that this carnet is valid. This exchange of advance information facilitates risk analysis before cargo arrives and makes border crossing easier, safer and faster.
